Hydrovar Variable Speed Drive

Have you an inefficient, power wasting, pressure switch controlled water booster system?

By installing a Hydrovar microprocessor variable speed pump system controller to your existing pumps you can;

· Maximise system performance

· Reduce energy consumption

· Energy savings of up to 70% are possible

· Reduce starting current

· Eliminate pressure pulsation and water hammer

· Increase pump reliability and service life

· Eliminate large air vessels or diaphragm tanks

Because of the variation of the pump performance through motor speed, the outgoing pressure will be constant regardless of the actual demand! The steady operation of the pumps also in partial loads prevents water hammer, which normally arise in the start/stop operation of full speed pumps! In each HYDROVAR pump, all hydraulic features for a small single booster pump up to a very complex multi-pump application are included as standard! No additional panel, control or protection devices are required! Simple installation, because all required parts like pump, asynchronous motor, microprocessor, controller and sensor are included in one compact unit and are pre-assembled in the factory! Installation and start up at sight is very easy and can be done very quickly by using the integrated LCD-display!

THE SAVINGS
An Example:

Say you have an 11kW pump that is cycling on and off by pressure switch control, and during periods of low demand, the pump may cycle up to 6 times per minute. The amperage draw of a motor basically trebles during start up, and given this frequency of cycling, the power consumption would be equivalent to running an 18.5kW motor running constantly. Assuming a power cost of 15 cents per kilowatt-hour, this would mean an annual power bill of approximately $24,000.00 just to run this pumping system. Using the same scenario by installing a variable speed drive on the system it will be equivalent to running a 7.5kW motor constantly. Using the same power cost would mean an annual power bill of only $10,000.00. This is a clear power saving of $14,000.00 per year! The hydrovar conversion could pay for itself in the first year from power savings alone!

HYDROVAR SYSTEMS
Hydrovar's can be wall mounted or mounted onto the fan cowling of single stage or multistage pumps up to 22 kW. Each Hydrovar is a variable frequency controller, complete with terminals for connection of remote control and with low-pressure protection, motor over temperature, VFD over temperature protection. The Hydrovar is designed to control a single pump or can be interfaced with up to three others in parallel to perform the varying load demand at constant pressure / constant flow or a system resistance.

· Irrigation systems
· High Rise apartment water supply
· Factory water systems
· Sewage pump stations

OPERATION
Hydrovar controlled pumps may be controlled to achieve constant pressure, constant flow or level control.

CONSTANT PRESSURE CONTROL
By constantly monitoring the pressure system, the Hydrovar will ramp the pump speed up or down to achieve the set pressure point. As the demand increases the pressure continues to fall, then the second Hydrovar in series will start the pump and ramp the speed up to achieve the desired system pressure. This sequence of events will continue, if more than two Hydrovar are in parallel. The reverse procedure will apply until there is zero consumption. To ensure that the pumps share an equal amount of time, the Hydrovar has a built in program, which randomly selects the lead pump.

CONSTANT LEVEL CONTROL
Using an ultra sonic eye, process controller, and Hydrovar on your existing sewage pump or tank-filling pump, the operation of level control can be converted to variable speed from conventional level switch control. This means a greater power saving, and more accurate control of water level.

INBUILT PROTECTION
Electrical protection is built into the logic system. The Hydrovar will protect itself from low and high electrical voltage, phase failure, and overload condition from pump set or high temperature with in the motor. The Hydrovar will again try to restart 5 times; if the problem still exists the Hydrovar will shut down. To reset the drive, turn power off on that drive and restart.

INSTALLATION
The Hydrovar controller when used for constant pressure control comes complete with a pressure transducer and cable. The Transducer is installed into the discharge pipe-work after the pump. For level control it comes with an ultra sonic eye and process controller. With the Hydrovar, only a circuit breaker panel is required before the unit. Sequencing and start / stop controls are communicated directly by the Hydrovar to the pump. Installation requires mounting Hydrovar on the wall or motor fan cowling, installing a circuit breaker, the transducer, and wiring from Hydrovar to the pump motor. The unit can then can be programmed and commissioned.
