SymCom is a leader in the industrial, electronic control and motor protection industry. SymCom motor protection products sense the power supplying a load, such as a pump motor. If a problem is sensed with the supply power, which will damage the motor, then our protectors disconnect the motor before damage occurs to the windings. Typical problems our products protect against are: high voltage, low voltage, voltage unbalance, single phasing, phase reversal, over current, current unbalance, clogged pipes (in pumping systems) and dry well (in pumping systems).

SymCom manufacture control devices under the names MotorSaver and PumpSaver.

PumpSaver's are single-phase monitors that measure power factor, voltage, and current. These measurements are collected and plugged into a microprocessor programmed with a specially calculated formula based on 20+ years of submersible pumping experience. A relay is also built into each PumpSaver monitor so that once the problem has been diagnosed, decisions can be made and the relay can trip. The trip is used to shut off power to the pump motor and prevent damage.

MotorSaver's are monitors that measure voltage and/or current and are used on three phase systems.

Model 233 PumpSaver

This is a pump monitor designed to protect single phase pumps from dry well, dead head, jammed impeller, and over & under voltage conditions. The PumpSaver Model 233 protects 0.37kW to 2.2 kW, 240V, 2 or 3 wire pumps. Typical applications include submersible pumps, centrifugal pumps, circulating pumps, cooling pumps, environmental pumps, residential water wells, commercial water wells, irrigation wells, and golf course systems.
A calibration adjustment allows the Model 233 to be calibrated to your specific pumping applications, thereby reducing the possibility of false or nuisance tripping. A unique microprocessor based voltage and current sensing circuit constantly monitors the incoming power for power factor fluctuations, over current, and under current. When an abnormality, such as loss of suction, is detected, the PumpSaver deactivates its output relay and directly disconnects the pump motor. The PumpSaver then begins its user-selectable "Restart Delay" (Dry Well recovery) timer. When the timer counts to zero or power is removed and reapplied, the PumpSaver reactivates its output relay and turns the pump back on.

Model 777 MotorSaver

This is a fully programmable electronic overload relay designed to monitor three phase systems. It can be used as a stand-alone product or the communication port can be used to form a network and monitor the motors from a laptop or desktop computer.
The Model 777 includes three built-in current transformers (CT’s), which will handle applications from 2-90 Full Load amps. External current transformers can be implemented to handle applications up to 800 FLA. The following 16 parameters can be viewed from the three digit alphanumeric LED or from a network computer: low voltage set point, high voltage set point, voltage unbalance set point, CT size/Loops setting, over current trip point, under current trip point, current unbalance trip point, trip class (5, 10, 15, 20, 30), Rapid Cycle Timer (RD1), Overload Restart Delay (RD2), Underload Restart Delay (RD3), number of starts after an overload, unbalance, single phasing (manual or automatic), RS485 address, number of restarts after an underload fault, underload trip delay, and ground fault trip point. Individual line voltages and current levels, as well as average voltage and average current can also be viewed while the motor is running.
The Model 777 is equipped with a RS485 port allowing up to 99 Model 777, 77C, or Model 601 units to be linked together. From the computer, an operator can control the motor, view the operating parameters, view the last faults by time & date, or log information.

The 777 protects 3-Phase motors from:
  • Overload
  • Underload
  • Jams
  • Low Voltage
  • High Voltage
  • Single Phasing
  • Unbalance (Voltage & Current)
  • Ground Fault (Class II)
  • Rapid Cycling
  • Phase Reversal

The following is a copy of an email received from one of the largest rubber plantations in Africa, which is a testimonial to the effectiveness of the SymCom units the field:

From: COO HEVECAM CAMEROUN
To: Industrial Pumping P/L
Subject: SYMCOM 777 MOTOR SAVERS

Dear Geoff,

I have been approached by my Industrial Manager to provide him some more SymCom units to be kept as spare. As you know, we purchased 20 units from you some seven months ago. As we have 20 boreholes, we have used all the units. Since installing the pump savers we have not lost a single motor. Prior to this, we would generally lose one motor per borehole per annum due to fluctuations in power, faulty probes, etc.

Consequently, my guys are completely sold on this product; hence they request to carry some backup units. My preference will be to purchase 6 units as we are currently equipping 3 new bole holes and would like to keep 3 units in reserve. This may change however depending on economics delivery.

Can you please provide your latest prices and proposals for delivery, etc.

Bests regards.
Ian Griffiths
